The costume display at the London Museum in December 2010 included a case display of figures attired in clothes of the period, on dark mannequins which has the effect of minimizing their faces and creating a magical environment of ghostly figures beautifully dressed, commemorating a vanished period. Here the dark silhouette of a visitor walking by the display adds to the mysterious and ambiguous effect. The pleasure gardens were closed in 1859 and the land sold for building.
