The building dates from the turn of the 15th-16th century.  The university, founded by Ximenez de Cisneros, opened in 1508 as the College of St. Ildefonso.  The facade was designed by Rodrigo Gil de Hontanon in the style known as plateresque.

The fresco, in the Green Cloister of Santa Maria Novella, was badly damaged in the flood of 1966.  Even so the concept of   the serpent in the Garden of Eden as an attractive blonde woman has great appeal to me.
