A TV / radio aerial is visible above the mud brick wall of the adjoining courtyard.  It represents a liminal space in which one has come from the inside and is about to enter the outside.

The building dates from the turn of the 15th-16th century.  The university, founded by Ximenez de Cisneros, opened in 1508 as the College of St. Ildefonso.  The facade was designed by Rodrigo Gil de Hontanon in the style known as plateresque.
