Cosmati inlaid marble floor, San Clemente, Rome

San Clemente, marble mosaic floor by the four brothers, known as the Cosmati from their father Cosmatus, between 1190 and 1235. The floor is seen from a low angle to show extent and complexity of the geometric pattern. Hexagons, triangles, circles, rectangles, squares, are set in a systematic close fitting design which I thought quite beautiful.
